New Mini fasting diets are catching on, is it the right choice for you?

Actors Hugh Jackman and Benedict Cumberbatch have done this as well as Viola Davis and Jimmy Kimmel. Call it mini fasting or intermittent fasting, an increasingly popular splurge and skin regimen for those who fight everyday dieting a drag. Celebrity endorsements aside there is some persuasive science to support its benefits. Not only for weight loss but for a lower risk of disease and you may even live a little longer.
The Lure of intermittent fasting is that it seems like a part-time diet. Instead of restricting yourself daily you have times when you can eat pretty much what you wish followed by monastic periods when you skip meals. Most fasting diets fall into one of three categories a two-day-a-week fast during which you eat 500 to 600 calories on two non-consecutive days a week and eat normally the other 5. An alternative plan of normal eating one day mini fasting the next and lastly, a time restricted plan during which you eat only during a small window of time such as 6 or 8 hours then go without the rest of the day.
The diets aren’t for anyone I can’t recommend mini fasting for adults or children with diabetes, hypertension or heart disease. But for healthy adults without those conditions it could be a new way to lose some of those extra pounds.
